Elon Musk’s Tesla is facing a class action lawsuit over claims that some of its electric cars have false collision alert systems.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The error is an inconvenience for the driver and could be a serious safety hazard.
The plaintiff filed the lawsuit in Cook County, Illinois, and claimed his Tesla experienced a serious defect in the collision monitoring system.
The system is designed to prevent a crash by monitoring the space in front of the car.
If it appears to have a collision, the system sounds an alert so the driver can take immediate action.
However, if the driver doesn’t take immediate action, the car automatically applies the brakes.
Joshua Santiago, the lead plaintiff, said his Tesla car regularly gives false forward collision alerts when driving along the highway.
Therefore, it triggered a loud noise and applied the brakes, although there was no danger in front of the car.
Santiago explains this event has happened multiple times.
The alert noise is loud and distracting, but that’s not the worst part.
The “phantom breaking” can occur when another vehicle is behind him, meaning the system could cause a collision rather than prevent one.
Interestingly, drivers across the US have reported hundreds of similar complaints to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Tesla.
