Three people were killed in the University of Nevada (UNLV), Las Vegas campus, shooting on Wednesday morning.

Multiple law enforcement explained the deceased suspect in the Las Vegas shooting is Anthony Polito, 67 .

He had applied for a college professorship at UNLV, but he wasn’t hired. Polito also has ties to Georgia and North Carolina, where he previously worked as a college professor.

The suspect was holding a handgun during the attack. Later, he was killed in a shootout with two police who responded to the active shooting scene.

Detectives have been trying to solve the case into the night and plan on continuing their work through the overnight hours.

Officials said one apartment in Henderson, near UNLV, is currently being searched as it’s believed to be the shooter’s home.

Detectives have also got Polito’s phone and are examining its contents to find the killer’s motivation for his alleged attack.

Besides, police are reading his writings to understand whether something could shed light on the UNLV campus.

Interestingly, the victims killed were not students, but campus staff.

It suggests to detectives that the UNLV shooting may not have been random, but it targeted certain people due to previous relationships or interactions.

The campus will be closed on Thursday and Friday.
