President Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan is still on hold, but 9 million borrowers may feel confused about their debt cancellation.
An Education Department spokesperson stated they began informing applicants that their applications for loan forgiveness had been approved.
However, the email subject line read “Your Student Loan Debt Relief Plan Application Has Been Approved.”
This email subject could lead to confusion.
They should’ve written a more neutral subject like “Status of Your Student Loan Forgiveness Application.”
Interestingly, the email body correctly informed them about the application status.
After all, the email subject error impacted borrowers with the loan serviced by Accenture Federal Services.
If your student loan forgiveness application hasn’t been approved, you must wait for the decision from the Supreme Court on the lawsuits.
Around 26 million people have applied for the debt cancellation plan, with 16 million already receiving approval.
But the Biden administration can’t continue reviewing any more student loan forgiveness applications until the legal challenges are settled.
Some people have begun receiving updated emails informing them of the error and revising the subject line.
Hence, borrowers don’t need to take any further action for a moment.
Besides the multi-state lawsuit, the Supreme Court announced it would process a second legal challenge to Biden’s student loan forgiveness program.
