After two weeks of search, missing University of Missouri student Riley Strain was found at the Cumberland River on Friday morning.

The 22-year-old’s body was found eight miles downriver from where he was seen for the last time.

According to Metro Nashville Police Department Chief John Drake, Strain still had the black and white shirt he was wearing when he went missing on March 8.

Authorities don’t suspect foul play in his death or his disappearance. Strain’s body was first reported by barge operators conducting routine checks near the river around 7:30 a.m.

First responders used a boat ramp to enter the water and collect the body from downriver. Drake explained, “The medical examiner’s office reviewed the body and confirmed that it is Riley Strain.”

Riley Strain was found after two weeks of extensive search by boat, air, and on foot that included the Nashville Fire Department, Metro Nashville Police Department, Nashville’s Office of Emergency Management, and countless volunteers.

“Normally with his height and weight, Strain could’ve surfaced in 14 to 20 days”, Drake explained.

“This is the 14th day so we were expecting to find him. We were in the right spot, it’s just unfortunate.”
