British comedian Paul O’Grady who rose to fame as a beloved TV host and the drag queen Lily Savage has passed away; he was 67.
Andre Portasio, the comedian’s husband, said that O’Grady died peacefully on Tuesday evening
Paul O'Grady had multiple heart attacks in the early aughts.
Portasio said O’Grady will be missed by his loved ones, family, friends, and all those who enjoyed his humor and compassion.
O'Grady was born in Birkenhead in 1955 and made his debut as Lily Savage in the ‘80s.
His Lily Savage persona wore a platinum blond wig, red lipstick, and dramatic eye shadow.
It became a strong character in London’s stand-up scene, especially in the Royal Vauxhall Tavern.
For Paul O'Grady, Lily Savage was more than just quick wit and foul-mouthed jokes.
He hosted “The Lily Savage Show” in the ‘90s and welcomed a variety of guests to his show.
Elton John, one of his guests, paid tribute to him on Instagram by saying everyone will miss him very much.
Besides the “The Lily Savage Show,” his TV work included hosting game shows “Blind Date,” “The Paul O’Grady Show,” and “Blankety Blank.”
He won BAFTA Award in 2005 for his “The Paul O’Grady Show” talk show.
