Jimmy Kimmel will return to host the 95th Oscars Academy Awards on March 12: it marks his third time after hosting in 2017 and 2019.

Kimmel’s selection is a safe choice at a difficult time for the Academy and award shows.

Bill Kramer, Academy Awards CEO, said having a host who understands how to handle a live audience is essential.

In late February, Jimmy Kimmel took a break from his Jimmy Kimmel Live! job to discuss the balance of being both funny and safe.

It became an essential issue as Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at last year’s ceremony after the host joked about Smith’s wife.

Kramer said Kimmel’s “edges aren’t too sharp,” therefore, people in the audience will feel very safe.

In an interview, Kimmel said he had 20 years of practice to properly balance fun and safety. He doesn't want to ruin the show for anyone.

Later, he revealed the best advice he got about hosting the show was from Billy Crystal, who said, “Play to the room.”

You have to get laughs in the room, so the audience at home will feel more comfortable.

Hence, Jimmy Kimmel said he would focus on everyone at the Dolby Theatre, including the actors and various production people, and show business people sitting there.
