2023 Women’s World Cup: USA vs. Netherlands 1-1

The US Women’s National Team drew the Netherlands 1-1 in the second group stage match at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Team captain Lindsey Horan scored her second goal of the tournament and helped his country earn a point.

The USA rallied from a one-goal deficit in a thrilling match between the two finalists of the previous Women’s World Cup.

After getting the draw, the USWNT stays at the top of Group E with four points.

The Netherlands also has four points, though, but the USA has an advantage on goal differential (NED +1, USA +3).

Meanwhile, Portugal gets the third position with three points after winning its second match against Vietnam.

The Group E final composition will be decided during the third match in which the USA will face Portugal on Aug. 1 and the Netherlands will take Vietnam.

This result also means the USA extends its unbeaten record in FIFA Women’s World Cup group stage matches to eight.

The USA team dominated the match, outshooting 18-4 and corner kicks 11-1, but the Netherlands scored first in the 17th minute.

The team got some creative spark in the second half as midfielder Rose Lavelle came into the match.

Lindsey Horan finally scored the equalizer in the 62nd minute after she converted Lavelle’s corner kick into a goal.
